The Express takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to travel to Avalon; trips to Two Harbors are also available. The Express schedule varies from winter to summer. Boats leave from San Pedro (110 Harbor Freeway to Harbor Boulevard & follow signs to Catalina Terminal), and from Long Beach (710 Long Beach Freeway to Shoreline Drive. Just past the Broadway exit, you'll see signs for the Catalina Terminal on the right). There is a charge for parking at both locations.

California Diving News is a monthly newspaper covering the local diving community, dive sites, flora and fauna, etc. CDN also includes a listing of all boat trips in the upcoming month. Free copies of CDN are available at BARNACLE BUSTERS club meetings.

Southern California's Best Beach Dives by Dale and Kim Sheckler contains detailed information on 42 beach dives in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties. This is an excellent resource to gain familiarity with local shore diving.

A number of books are available that cover diving off Catalina Island and the other Channel Islands, as well as local fish, invertebrates, plants, etc. Your local dive shop should stock examples.
